Pumpelstiltskin Pumpkin Ale – A Family Affair

I’m visiting my mother’s house, and she informs me that there’s pumpkins growing in this year’s garden. So, like any other homebrewer, I suggest we brew a pumpkin beer with some of the harvest. My girlfriend, Heather, came up with the recipe, borrowing spice and grain ideas from a few different pumpkin ales. Since it was her prowess, this batch was named by Heather. We present to you:

 

Pumpelstiltskin Pumpkin Ale

  • 8# Roasted Pumpkin
  • 1# Vienna Malt
  • 1/2# Crystal Malt
  • 1/2# Malted Wheat
  • 7# Light Malt Extract
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar (60)
  • 1/2 cup molasses (60)
  • 1 oz Mt Hood Hops (60)
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick, ground (30)
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick, ground (15)
  • 1 tsp Cardamom, ground (15)
  • 1/2 tsp Whole Cloves, ground (15)
  • 1/2 of a Whole Nutmeg, ground (15)
  • 1 tbs Fresh Grated Ginger (15)
  • 1/8 cup Pure Vanilla Extract (15)
  • 1 tsp Allspice, ground (15)
  • Wyeast 1272 American Ale II
OG – 1.048
FG – 1.01
ABV – 4.9%
Brewed – 10/8/11
Kegged – 11/12/11
